my story

I'm a born architect, a lifelong tinkerer, and a dedicated problem solver. My journey started with Legos, building forts, rebuilding bicycles, racing slot cars and the insatiable urge to dismantle everything just to figure out how it ticked. As a teenager, I practically grew up on construction sites, thanks to my older brother's construction business – I was the kid who knew more about blueprints, tools, than bedtime stories.

After high school, I dove headfirst into the construction world, where I noticed architects often resembled lost tourists in a construction maze. It hit me: I could do that, and I could do it better. So, off I went to night school, determined to beef up my design and drafting skills.

With my knack for hands-on learning, I tested out of classes like materials, construction methods, and drafting. In 1985, I snagged my first design project, which was the spark that ignited my architectural journey. I joined Talbert Packowski + Assoc, as a design draftsperson and soon afterword a partner in House Art, a sacramento california high end residential design and spec builder.

Eager to tackle ever more complex challenges, I found myself at Nacht + Lewis Architects, designing everything from schools, hospitals, jails to government buildings. I was knee-deep in the design process, creating presentation drawings, learning about colored pencils, marker techniques and loving the process, but I could see that i had tons of hands on practical knowledge but i was yearning for architecture that was more conceptually rooted.

I knew it was time for a creative reboot, so I enrolled at the Southern California Institute of Architecture and graduated with honors in '94. That very year, I launched my own company, Doron Dreksler Design – focused on residential design, and design-drafting while i focused on running the business i also juggled the requirements for gaining my architecture license, building spec projects and focusing on design competitions.

And oh, did I mention, I'm not just a father of five – I've become a proud grandad, emensly enjoying the next generation. But my passion doesn't stop at architecture, construction and family; I'm a bona fide car enthusiast. When I'm not designing and building buildings, you'll find me elbow-deep in restoring classic cars, building and racing sports cars, and even earning awards and a few championships – an architect's eye for detail and craftsmanship extends from building places where people live work and play to projects with gas pedals and steering wheels. I have a habit of taking things apart, improving them, and putting them back together. It's in my DNA.

So, here I am, an experienced, designer, architect and builder with a few battle scars, a family man, and a grandad, ready to take on your architectural dreams, one discussion, sketch, model, 3D rendering at a time, while also revving up my next automotive adventure.
